This is the fourth project for my Computer Art 2 class. The class focuses exclusively on using Illustrator to make vectorized images. This assignment had us download a picture from the internet and attempt to duplicate it as closely as possible. I picked a very popular image of the "earlier" model Subaru WRX STi. I think I did a pretty good job, although there are some details missing such as interior components (chair, steering wheel, back windshield) and more specifically the Subaru emblem on the grill and the WRX STi vinyls that would appear on the bumper.
This is my first real foray into vectorizing an image. If you have any comments or suggestions for better use of the program, please let me know. I did have one problem where exporting the image to a JPG or BMP from Illustrator made the highlights on the car turn a dark purple. Because of this, this image has been post-processed in Photoshop ONLY to tune the hue that got screwed up from the export.
For a class huh?
Lookin pretty good.
And you dont have to do interior components if you dont want to, I sure dont. ;D
So when your class says "make it look as close to the pic as possible", do they mean photo-realism (which I hate), or just proportionate?
I sure hope your class doesnt impose photo-realism on you, because there are much more styles you can do with AI.
Pretty much what visua said (he's the authority on major sweet cartoony/vector cars (as you know)). Plus, um nice first attempt. Good too see more people taking part in the autocartoonifying game
The main purpose was to recreate the image as perfectly as possible. Since this is my first attempt at vectorizing any image, I wanted to try to satisfy that criteria, as well as gain some understanding of Illustrator techniques, before finishing the piece with any style... well, I guess I don't really have a style for this type of stuff yet
AI = Adobe Illustrator.
As for finding a style, well, it comes naturally with trial and error, atleast on my part. View my DA gallery from first post to newest, youll notice my progression of style quite blatantly.
I dont draw much, actually I can't draw at all.
Still in my opinion I think you have done a greta job at replicating the image. At frirst when I saw it smaller I thought it was 3d art but then I looked at the full view and saw that was a 2d AI image. Great job, it looks great.
